Artist: Bob Ross Title: Mountain Waterfall Medium: Original Oil on Canvas Painting Size: 24″x 18″ Year: Circa 1980 Condition: Damage to right side, including missing paint Documentation: Includes a Certificate of Authenticity from Bob Ross, Inc. Mountain Waterfall is one of Bob Ross most iconic and recognizable images. Variations of the image were featured several times on The Joy of Painting, including in Season 2, Episode 12 (1983) and Season 5, Episode 1 (1985). This imagery in this painting more closely resembles the Season 2 version with the waterfall framed by trees in the foreground with a mountain background in the distance. Although this image was featured in an episode of The Joy of Painting, please note that this is not the actual painting featured on the episode. This particular rendition of Mountain Waterfalls contains several unique characteristics, including the pink hued sky and mountains, as well as the orientation this painting is a vertical 24 x 18 as opposed to the horizontal 18 x 24 in the episode. While we do not know the precise year this piece was painted, Bob Ross Inc. Estimates it was created circa 1980. Bob Ross Mountain Waterfall contains damage to the right side, including missing paint. The piece is signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity from Bob Ross, Inc. Having spent his entire artistic career in front of the TV camera shooting The Joy of Painting, Bob Ross was one of the greatest advocates for painting in the late 20th century. Known as a painter of uniquely soothing voice, who always painted happy images, he was watched by millions and eventually reached the status of a living icon. In 1981, he abandoned the army to pursue painting. In the early years, he was struggling. This is when his signature perm was born, as a way of cutting haircut costs, a style he wore and hated throughout his life. Ross remained dedicated to landscape throughout his entire body of work, which counts around 30.000 paintings. His works are populated with trees, clouds, lakes and streams, and only an occasional cabin. Known as a sincere environmentalist, he often painted various small animals, bringing them often to the studio. Interestingly, very few of his works ever depicted a human figure. The technique he used is called wet on wet or Alla Prima, dating back to the Renaissance. Still, it was difficult to define Bob Ross style in terms of contemporary art. It was closest to Pop Art, due to his celebrity status and the concept in which it was created. Even today, more than twenty years after his death, he remains an Internet sensation. In 2015, over 400 episodes of his famous TV show The Joy of Painting were added to the official Bob Ross Youtube Channel. In 2016, his other painting television series Beauty is Everywhere began streaming on Netflix. Furthermore, numerous series have paid homage to Bob Ross in various ways, while Google keeps posting Google Doodle and birthday tributes to the painter every year. A calm, happy person, Bob Ross kept a democratic, open attitude, claiming that anyone can paint regardless of talent, only if they are ready to practice enough. We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents, he used to say. And the people loved him for it. Born as Robert Norman Ross in Daytona Beach, Florida on October 29, 1942, the meticulous painter died of lymphoma on July 4, 1995, at the age of 52. World’s Most Demanded Contemporary Artists. Very Interesting French Oil On Canvas Portrait Painting Of A Noble Lady 1650
A Very Interesting Mid 17th Century French Portrait of a Noble Lady Oil on Canvas. A Fine’Manor House’ portrait – Catherine de la Rochefoucauld (1620 – 1691). This is a very finely executed portrait of a French noble lady who we know to be the sister of Francois VI, Duc de la Rochefoucauld, Prince de Marcillac. 1613 – 1680 and daughter of Francois V (1588 – 1650). Extremely well executed capturing the lady’s grief but also her aristocratic poise and bearing which she has not allowed to be diminished even under the mournful circumstances of her father’s death.. She wears the ubiquitous black mourning gown and headdress of the time which has been finely detailed by the artist – who is unknown to us. I have carried out a good deal of research into this painting and the only date which matches the lady’s age – her appearance here – (about age 30) and finding her wearing black mourning garb is 1650 – the death of her father. So in my view this work can be acccurately dated to 1650…. And the style of painting fits perfectly to that period. No other family member died close to that date and this is certainly not a painting showing her at age 71 when her husband died! Of more interest actually is the life of her brother Francois VI – a very good read – a man of many many talents – a famous aristocratic author in Paris and someone who fell out spectacularly with Cardinal Richelieu…… Please look him up on Wikipedia if you are interested – a remarkable man! And here we have a remarkable work… In my view his sister mourning the death of their father in 1650. Housed in a super ebonised and gilt moulded frame which is later and detailed with a plaque inscribed with the lady’s title. In good order for over 370 years of age there is stabilised craquleure present and corner repair where probably in the mid 18th century the owners (possibly her descendents) decided to house her in what was then a fashionable oval frame.. Since then (but a long time ago) she has been reinstated in her correct shape of frame and the corners very expertly added…… All a part of the history of the work. Ready to hang (as are ALL my paintings). Any paler areas you may see are glare from light striking the varnish and are not weaker parts of the painting. A superior and highly decorative portrait painting – 370 years old – keenly recommended. Measurements including the frame 34.5″ x 28.25″. You will clearly be shown the entire work of art – front and back – and details of all of it’s good and’bad’ points. I will not be vague about age or provenance or any later work carried out. ALL of my paintings are’ready to hang’ and I will NEVER expect you to find a frame or carry out any restoration work yourself – this is MY job as a professional fine art dealer. I hope you will find something you like – please message me with questions – You will find me accommodating and friendly. Many thanks and best wishes. This is the exact cost to me. Some larger paintings can require a courier who will personally deliver to you… This may take a little longer to arrive. For international carriage costs please message me. 17th Century Italian Old Master Religious Oil on Canvas Sacred Heart of Christ
Late 17th Century Italian Old Master Style Religious Oil on Canvas. Circa late 17th century. An old master style religious study, depicting angels, the sacred heart of Christ, a serpent and dove. Possibly a Holy representation of love, peace and wisdom. The sacred heart of Christ symbol representing Christs love for the whole of humanity, the serpent traditionally believed represent wisdom and the dove of peace (Matthew 10:16 “be ye therefore wise as a serpent and harmless as doves”). There may be other interpretations. Mounted in a carved wooden gilt frame, with polychrome floral decoration in relief. Painting 40cm x 30cm. Frame 55cm x 47cm. Does require some restoration. There is considerable surface wear, some crazing and some losses to the paint (see photos). There are some losses and wear to the gilding on the frame and a loss to the floral decoration lower left. Old worm holes to the back of the frame, as would be expected. Please also refer to the photographs , they form part of the description. Marigny Quill an Original Oil by James Michalopoulos (1992) (#3485). This stunning Michalopoulos original features a coveted shotgun or creole cottage scene in New Orleans, particularly, the Marigny neighborhood. Michalopoulos shows off his tremendous use of light and darkness in this piece that shows his mastery of shadows: an off canvas tree casts palpable shade on the home. Michalopoulos juxtaposes brilliant colors, here a vibrant blue that captures a clear New Orleans day, with shadows and billowy trees. The flowing lines and bright color mirror the vibrant culture and beauty of the City of New Orleans. Includes certificate of authenticity authenticating the piece from the Michalopoulos Gallery as pictured in the listing. This is a stunningly framed 28×22 inch piece. Also en verso Michalopoulos and the number identifying the piece in the Michalopoulos catalogue as 3485. The front is signed with his distinctive red Michalopoulos in perfect condition, a perfect example of the artists current signature. The piece is in excellent condition, with no noted imperfections. The colors remain vivid and truly stunning! As with all Michalopoulos works, this is one you have to behold to fully appreciate its beauty and brilliance! Celebrated New Orleans artist James Michalopoulos was born in 1951 in Pittsburgh. After graduating from Bowdoin College with a Bachelor of Arts degree he pursued the life of a modern-day itinerate artist, traveling throughout the South while capturing its unexpected, everyday exotica in his paintings. He eventually settled in New Orleans, drawn to the city that would become his muse. He studied fine art at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art and at the University of New Orleans. He began painting en plein air in the French Quarter, working in oil on canvas, and became known for his energetically distorted interpretations of vernacular New Orleans buildings. His paintings capture the life, movement and personality of his subjects. His has a uniquely musical, energetic stylefull of color and broad brushstrokes. He lays paint on thickly, sculpting the paint with a palette knife until his subject emerges. My style is an abstraction of the figurative. I like color, volumetric shape and graphic lines. While one may recognize the subject of my painting, through my work one discovers the spirit of it. Although he remains inspired by the duality of beauty and decay that is the heart of New Orleans, Michalopoulos recent canvases also capture the human form both in portraiture and social scenes, abstracted landscapesmostly of the woods and fields surrounding his home in France, and occasionally animals that have managed to catch both his eye and imagination. His work has been shown extensively in the U. And abroad, including: France, England, Germany, Switzerland and Holland. He has been named Official Artist of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival six times, with his work appearing each time on the coveted poster, an unprecedented, andto dateunmatched honor. Gambit Weekly has declared him Best Artist of the Year eight times. His work has been collected by such distinguished figures as: Jackson Browne, John Goodman, Linda Hamilton, Bonnie Raitt, Sharon Stone, Aaron Neville, Emmylou Harris and Bruce Willis. Public and corporate collections include: the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Governors Mansion of Louisiana, Universal Studios, the New Orleans Museum of Art, Chevrolet Motor Corporation, the Chrysler Corporation and Northwest Airlines, among others.
