Born and raised in New York, Sol Korby acquired his earliest education in art from the comics and illustrations found in the newspapers and magazines in his parents candy store. Upon finishing high school, he served three years in the army during World War II. After the war, he worked as an Art Director in various advertising agencies while studying illustration in the evening at the Art Students League with Frank J. Upon completion of his studies, he left advertising and worked for most of the leading publishers, among them Dell, Ace, Fawcett, Avon, TV Guide, and Readers Digest.     Beautiful seascape painting by Edwin Hayes picturing Dunstanborough, Northhumberland in ruff sea. Inner frame: 35 19 cm. Outet frame: 53 36 cm. Hayes was born in Bristol, England but brought up in Dublin, Ireland where his father was a hotelier. He studied art at the Dublin Society Art School and first exhibited his work at the RHA (Royal Hibernian Academy) in 1842. He remained in Dublin for ten years before moving to London. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, British Institution, Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, becoming a full member of the latter in 1863. Hayes painted seascapes in Ireland, England, Belgium, Holland, France, Spain and Italy, his work invariably featuring ships and boats in high seas, harbour scenes or other aspects of the coastline.
