Upon finishing high school, he served three years in the army during World War II. After the war, he worked as an Art Director in various advertising agencies while studying illustration in the evening at the Art Students League with Frank J. Upon completion of his studies, he left advertising and worked for most of the leading publishers, among them Dell, Ace, Fawcett, Avon, TV Guide, and Readers Digest.
