Kølbel studied at the Royal College of Art and was a member of the Young Artists Society and the Norwegian Association of Painters. He won several prizes for his graphic work and he exhibited at the Oslo Art Association, the National Gallery in Oslo, the Oslo Museum of Fine Arts, the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and many others. His work is in the collections of the National Gallery in Oslo, the National Museum in Stockholm, the Brooklyn Museum, the Royal Palace in Oslo, and many others. This oil on canvas is signed lower right and dated 1934 (appears to read 1934). It measures 26.25″ x 23″ (painting size).
