He painted western scenes during the 1960’s and the 1970’s. Jim Dooley was a self-taught artist who painted primarily southwestern and Texas hill country scenes. He was also known for his depictions of Texas bluebonnets. He was originally from Hope, Arkansas and moved to Austin, Texas when he was a young child. He died in a car accident at the age of 38. His paintings were represented by the Gannaway Gallery and the Country Store Gallery in Austin, Texas and the Southwestern Gallery in Houston, Texas. In the 1970’s, his paintings were sent to galleries in Odessa, Rockport, Longview, Corpus Christi, and San Antonio.
