Step One: Preparing the Canvas. So as to seal in the paint and protect your art piece from dust, you can put several coats of. Acrylic varnish on it with a sponge or paint brush. This product also comes in a spray can. Step Two: Stretching the Painting Canvas. We strongly suggest that you watch a video on this step. Again, it’s not complicated. It is very straightforward. You will need stretcher bars, wood glue (optional), a staple gun with staples, and canvas pliers. Step Three: Attaching the Stretched Canvas to the Frame. This process simply requires that some metal hardware framing brackets be screwed or drilled into the frame. Again, the hardware is commonly found at a hobby, craft, or hardware store. Step Four: Adding Hanging Hardware. This is the easiest step. Simply attach the hanging hardware to the back using a tape measure for centering accuracy. Mid 19th century, antique European Dutch / Flemish Genre oil painting on canvas in gold gilt frame. Children in the painting, are creating and painting their own oil painting on an easel within the scene. In the background are adults in the back room. Looks like the kids are in the outhouse are or washroom where they do laundry. There is an “L’ shaped tear about 1.5″ long in one of the clothes hanging from the line. The canvas is there and you can’t hardly tell if you place your hand behind and hold it. Frame is nice gold gilt. Some gesso is chipped on spots. Stretcher is 15 7/8″ tall X 10 3/8″ wide. The smaller paintings are often studio or life studies and oil sketches and though they are pretty snazzy in their own right, they are not the same as the larger more developed easel paintings. Many of my paintings have thick paint and can take a while to cure completely. The thick passages may still be a bit soft. With a few weeks cure time the paint will stiffen and the new aroma of natural walnut oil will fade completely. Please be aware that my paintings are meant to be viewed FRAMED. As fantastical as they may be and as pleased as you might be with your winning of my unframed little masterpiece be aware that the magnitude of your ocular felicity will increase exponentially as soon as you see the painting framed. They are best viewed and enjoyed with a simple profile dark or gold leafed plein air or craftsman style frame like the one pictured. The colors, drawing and composition of the artwork will all stand out and come together in a most pleasing-to-the-eye fashion when once framed. Add this beautiful signed original nude oil on canvas painting by Playboy and celebrity commissioned artist Leo Jansen to your home or collection. 18″ x 24″ and 26″ x 32″ framed. Jansen’s signature is in 3 places on the painting; on the front right bottom corner, as well as a thumb print with signature, and stamped signature on the back of painting. Date 1979 on the back of painting. Series collection #54321 J-80. The painting and frame overall are in very good condition. Minor flaws include small holes in frame which can be repaired easily. Born in the Netherlands, moved to the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) when he was ten. There in the tropics, he began his craft by sketching bronze-skinned Indonesian girls for leisure. Like most continental artists, he gravitated first to Paris and quickly established himself as a portraitist of considerable talent. In 1962, he arrived in New York. Because of the softness and light he infused his portraits, he was chosen by several companies to do commemorative plates. Jansen is, perhaps, best known throughout the United States and Europe for his mother’s day plates and puppies plate series. Many of the rich and famous such as Raquel Welch, William Holden, Donald Sutherland, Stephanie Powers, and the LA Times Hearst family. In addition, he also gained fame for his portraiture of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. His Beatles portraits are among the more collectible memorabilia by fans. But despite his national reputation as a portrait artist, he refused many of those demand and resumed his childhood love affair of painting nudes. He then moved to Southern California. For eighteen years, he was commissioned by Playboy Magazine to paint the playmate of the month. In his first six years, he was the artist chosen to paint 58 of the 72 portraits. His works hang in the Hugh Hefner’s Playboy corporate headquarters and in the mansion. Ranked among the nation’s best interpretive artist of nudes, Jansen’s canvases hang in collection of a wide range of notables from Jean-Claude Pascal to the late Judy Garland.
