MARJORIE REED 1915-1997 Early California Arizona Western Impressionist

Born in Springfield, Illinois in 1915, she grew up in Los Angeles where her father, Walter Reed, was an illustrator for Walt Disney. After graduating from high school she attended Chouinart Art School and the Art Center school in Los Angeles. Yet she credited her most important formal training to well known California landscape artist Jack WilkInson Smith. Reed claimed to have moved over eighty times in her life, spending most of her years in Arizona and Southern California. Her longest stay in one place was spent in the Tombstone area where she used to own and operate the Adobe Gallery in the 1960’s and 70’s. Marjorie Reed died while raking leaves a few days after Thanksgiving in 1996 at Campbell Ranch in Vallecito, California. This is a large painting of Jerusalem painted by Reed on her visit to the Holy Land in the 80’s. It is from Mt. Of Olives looking down towards the ancient walled city. A nicely done shepherd with his donkey and sheep & below is the Russian church above Gethsemane. It is a 24″x 48″ oil on canvas signed lower right and title labeled on the back by Reed herself. Fantastic Realism by Mag Raven. This is one of my paintings from Fantastic Realism Collection. Size: 30″ x 36″, 0.75 thick. (91.5 x 76cm, 1.5cm thick) Technique: original, varnished oil painting on canvas 100% hand painted unique painting, one of its kind, not a copy or reproduction, my own idea. Canvas is gallery wrapped, no visible stitches on the edges. All sides are painted to match the colors of the painting. You can hang it on the wall with or without the frame. You will have to put two hooks in your wall because of the panel on the back of the painting. Signature initials MR is hidden within the painting. My artist pseudonym is Mag Raven. It has certificate of authenticity (COA) with its unique number. All my artwork is catalogued. This painting took over 40 hours to finish. Each layer of paint has to dry out before I can continue painting. It makes entire process longer. I’ve been painting since I could crawl. My parents knew that when I get quiet it means only one thing, that I’m painting, probably on the walls of our apartment. Lack of paper wouldn’t stop me! I work as a full time artist. My artwork can be found in collections all over the world. My greatest inspiration is art of Zdzislaw Beksinski. I love his style, ideas and expression. I still learn from him a lot and study his technique. This is why you will find some inspirations in my paintings taken directly from his art. I’m also inspired by old ruins, rocks and bones, simply things what remind us about inevitable end but they can last for millions of years. You are welcome to ask me any question.
