John Paul O’Grodnick was born and raised in Fairfield County Connecticut. He began painting in his mid twenties and has evolved stylistically through many of his life experiences since moving to New York. Escription of item for sale. This oil on board. Schouten studied at the Academy of Brussels from 1876 to 1881. He specialized in paintings of cattle, poultry and other animals. This painting is a classic example of his work, professionally executed with warm summer colors. Both the painting and frame are in very good antique condition. The paint shows no cracks or other age marks but it looks like it might brighten with a cleaning. The oak board is flat and undamaged. The rococo frame is from the same time period as the painting but is not original to it. However, it complements the painting quite nicely. Note cracks in two corners of the frame. Dimensions : 18″ wide, 14.5″ tall and 2.5 deep in its frame. The panel size is 12.75″ wide and 9.5″ tall.
