This is an enchanting and well done Antique 19th c. California Plein Air Impressionist Seascape Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a moonlit beach scape in San Francisco. Dunand in the lower left. Perhaps you recognize the artist? This work depicts an overcast beach scene in San Francisco, California. A famous San Francisco building, the original Cliff House (1863 – 1894), can be seen at the top of a cliff in the distance. If you look closely, you can see small Impressionistic figures on the beach, with sun hats and baskets. Overall, this is a beautiful and lovely piece, which evokes a mood of calm and contemplation in the viewer. This work is in good condition, with light craquelure from age. The painting has been re-lined on a sturdy waxed canvas, which as no tears or rips. Original gilded wood frame has some chipped / missing gesso at the corners please see photos.
