This is a large portrait of a handsome and distinguished gentleman. Signed lower left what looks like William Funk and dated 1911 (please see last photo). The painting itself measures 30 1/4″ x 25 1/4″ and is displayed in an impressive gilt wood and gesso frame measuring 39″ x 34″. In-painting in the area around the gentleman’s head and on his shirt. Would benefit from a good professional cleaning. I do detect the smell of cigarette smoke. The frame is in overall good condition for its age. There is some cracking to the gesso, which is to be expected, some light paint loss, and the top of the decoration center left is chipped off. Thanks for stopping by. The painting is wonderfully executed and. A skilled and competent artist. The consigner indicated her family was from Philadelphia and had resided there sin. Ce the early 1700’s. This is an enchanting and well done Antique 19th c. California Plein Air Impressionist Seascape Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a moonlit beach scape in San Francisco. Dunand in the lower left. Perhaps you recognize the artist? This work depicts an overcast beach scene in San Francisco, California. A famous San Francisco building, the original Cliff House (1863 – 1894), can be seen at the top of a cliff in the distance. If you look closely, you can see small Impressionistic figures on the beach, with sun hats and baskets. Overall, this is a beautiful and lovely piece, which evokes a mood of calm and contemplation in the viewer. This work is in good condition, with light craquelure from age. The painting has been re-lined on a sturdy waxed canvas, which as no tears or rips. Original gilded wood frame has some chipped / missing gesso at the corners please see photos.
