Antique Oil Painting Livestock Pasture Landscape Flock of Sheep or Lambs Grazing

Antique, late 19th to very early 20th century oil painting on canvas of a flock of sheep grazing in overall good condition, unsigned. As you can see from the images the painting has two small, thin scratches to the canvas which are not complete tears and are backed on the reverse side of the canvas (painting was acquired like this). Painting likewise shows some darkening from age. In the images taken without flash there appear to be some digitized “blue streaks”, this is a distortion of my camera and not in the actual painting. Painting is an an antique, double frame which shows wear and dusting and has a cord and is ready for hanging. Entire piece including the frame measures approximately 17 3/4 x 14 3/4 inches. Igned by the artist with one of his pseudonym H. This pseudonym is one of several pseudonyms used by the artist Hans Zatzka to circumvent the exclusionary contracts many 19th century art dealers and galleries forced their artists to sign. It was not unusual for popular artists to have contracts at various galleries under different names; this enabled them to offer their works in different venues without breaking any legally binding agreements. Zatzka studied from 1877 to 1882 at Vienna Art Academy by Christian Griepenkerl and Carl von Blaas. Beeing a student at the Academy, he was awarded with a Gold Füger-Medal. In modern times his paintings are very much thought after by collectors and institutions worldwide. Signed and dated 1886.
