Here is a huge antique oil on canvas figure portrait painting of a sweet woman in a black dress. She is posing in a red velvet chair, faintly seen in the background and has a rose and lace on her collar. The entire piece measures a whooping 37 x 47 ins. The canvas alone is 34 x 44 ins. The painting is in FAIR as is vintage condition with some scrapes, crazing/wear of paint finish on her face, old tear/repair at side right bottom. The frame is in fair as is condition as well with some compo decorative loss, scrapes but is sturdy and original. The frame has a nice arch at the top that sets the art off well. I do not see a signature. The only history I have of this piece is it came from Riverside, California and the woman’s last name was Bradbury. On the back of the canvas is a artist supplier, Theodore Kelley, artists Colorman, 172 Greene, NY, N. Searching online I discovered this supplier made this particular canvas in 1861-63 time period. I have no clue who the actual artist was but he was accomplished, a professional and not a hobbyist artist. Look how finely her eyes, hair and hands are painted.
