This listing is for the Early 19th Century American Female Artist Self Portrait with Artist Palette pictured above. This self portrait depicts an unknown American female artist circa 1830. She sits in a large red chair with a colorful cloth draping over the side. The background features a tied-back red drape opening up the mountainous landscape behind the artist. She wears a long black dress with a white lace collar and holds a wooden artist palette with various colored paints. Early American female self portraits are extremely rare. I struggled to find similar examples. The portrait measures about 14 inches tall by 12 inches wide. The frame measures about 16.5 inches tall by 14.5 inches wide. Condition: The painting is clean, has some areas of in-painting throughout and has been relined. The paint surface has a rippling effect due to the shrinking and expanding of the paint surface over 200 years. Please refer to all of the pictures for complete condition.
