This is an 18 by 24 inch (image size) oil painting depicting a large hunting scene in the English countryside. With the frame it measures 21 by 29 inches. It is in excellent condition. He was a provincial English painter born in West Hartlepool, in north-east England. He rose to prominence in 1914 when his painting entitled. Was reproduced as the souvenir print issued by. Newspaper with its Christmas number. The painting depicted a young soldier lying dead on the battlefield beneath a vision of Christ on the Cross. It had an immediate appeal to many, and prints were snapped up by churches, schools, and mission halls. One reviewer stated that the print had. Turned railway bookstalls into wayside shrines. I have seen prints of this painting where the title is listed as Goodbye! But there are no markings indicating the name. There is part of a paper label, I presume from a gallery in Kings Cross. The painting has craquelure and one spot of paint loss as shown in third to last photo. There is hanging hardware on both sides of the painting (see photo #8) and a a loss of some of the gesso on the frame as shown. Painting measures approximately 34.5″ tall and 19.5″ wide.
