Striking oil painting on canvas depicting a view of the port with fishermen and fish sellers. Signed in the lower left corner. Measurement: Art work: 10.5″ x 14″. Frame: 15.5″ x 19.5″. In good antique condition. Only slightly darkened over the years, and some crackle in some areas. Eugene Demester was born in Paris in 1914, the son of the painter Charles Demester. Eugene studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He went on to win numerous French Art Awards including the Prix Rosset at the Salon d’Hiver. His style is much influenced by the Impressionists, with strong colours and impasto being a feature in most of his landscape works and coastal harbour scenes. He died in 1985.
