James Galindo Original Oil Painting on Canvas. 2008 Contemporary Figurative Nude. It is, without a doubt, my favorite non-pottery piece in my collection and probably my favorite painting I’ve ever owned. Dimensions are approximately 11″ x 14″ Canvas – 16″ x 19″ in frame. Dark hardwood frame accompanys the painting nicely. The subject of the painting is a lovely young woman sitting in a chair in front of an abstractly shadowed background. The scene is beautifully rendered and skillfully painted by the artist. Everything about this painting, from the soft light to the women’s graceful comportment, is simply beautiful. James Galindo is an astute observer of art history, he draws on the rich traditions of portraiture and the nude, from Gustave Courbet to John Singer Sargent. His dramatic use of light, painterly brushwork, and earthy palette, accented with jewel tones, evokes French and Dutch Old Masters. His anonymous subjects are not merely sitters we see through the artist’s eyes, but living, breathing women whose subtle expressions, luminous, sculpted forms, and inner dialogues convey a physical and psychological presence.
