PAINTING IN GOOD CONDITION. DETAIL AND COLOR OF EACH PORTION, ALL REVEALS THE SKILLFUL CREATION ARTWORK. SIZE 24 X 20 INCH FRAME 30 X 26 INCH. Maurice Braun was born on October 1, 1877 in Nagy Bittse, which then, was within the boundaries of Hungary and now is a resort in Czechoslovakia. Hungarian by birth, at the age of four Maurice and the Braun family migrated to the United States and settled in New York City. As a young man Maurice Braun rejected a career as a jeweler and instead opted to become a painter. From 1897 to 1900 his professional studies took him to the National Academy of Fine Arts studying in the French academic tradition under Francis C. Maynard and Edgar M. Following his training at the Academy, in 1901 Braun studied for one year with the famous American painter William Merritt Chase. After having been established in New York as a figure and portrait painter, Braun left for California in 1909 to escape the influence of his fellow artists. California’s incredible landscape proved to be inspirational. Reveling in the color and forms of the region, with a strong sense of composition, he masterfully balanced the challenges of California’s intense light and color. His landscapes reflect a deep respect and appreciation for nature. Captivated by San Diego and southern California throughout his career, Braun became an integral figure of the Southern California landscape school along with his contemporaries Charles Reiffel, Charles A. Fries, Leon Bonnet and Elliot Torrey. He was considered by many to be San Diego’s most famous of early painters. He maintained studios in San Diego, California and Old Lyme, Connecticut. Maurice Braun won the Hallgarten Prize, National Academy of Design in 1900 and later the Gold Medal at the Panama-California Exposition, San Diego in 1915,1916. His paintings can be found in the Houston Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Laguna Beach Museum of Art and the San Diego Museum of Art. Maurice Braun died in his beloved city, San Diego, on November 7, 1941. Artist Biography: Jeff Love Born in 1961 into a farming family from Ohio, Jeff spent his early years with a pasture of sheep, acres of corn and a red prairie barn as his playgrounds. As Jeff watched his grandfather shepherd a flock of sheep or harvest a field of corn, a love for nature grew. Art was always of interest to Jeff and the two seemed to go together well. A move to Colorado during his early teen years brought about a new love to build his growing interest in art on § The Rocky Mountains. Excelling in art in school, a high school teacher recognized that Jeff needed to go farther and encouraged him to take college courses while in high school at an art school in Colorado Springs where he explored various mediums and styles. After high school, Jeff studied art in college in Kansas City, Kansas, furthering his skills which led to an award in watercolor and representation in a gallery show. After college, Jeff felt a call on his life to a career in ministry and has spent many fulfilling years helping others discover their unique giftedness and purpose in life. Ministry has taken Jeff to Colorado, Nebraska, West Texas, and Arizona, where he now lives. During these years, Jeff focused his continuing education in ministerial studies, painting mostly for enjoyment and as an outlet. Finally, in 2007, Jeff recognized that an important part of his own life-purpose was creating and painting. Jeff is a firm believer and has taught countless many that it is never too late to become the best that God intends you to be. Actively pursuing painting with the inspiration and encouragement of instruction from some of his favorite artists, Jeff’s medium of choice is oil in which he has dedicated himself to exploring the Arizona landscape both en plein air and in the studio. Jeff loves to teach, paint and study art, wander the wilderness looking for just the right light, and his paintings are often inspired from some remote mountain location in the high desert of Southern Arizona. As an artist, I strive to paint in such a way as to reflect God’s invisible qualities § His eternal power and divine nature – as seen clearly and understood in all that He has created. This great landscape by Paul Grimm is in excellent shape. The frame is original and could use a bit of restoration. The painting itself has never been cleaned or restored but has been displayed in a non smoking environment out of direct sun. Size of canvas is a 20 x 24. My mother owned an art gallery in California for a short time in the late 60’s and has had this since that time. Grimm (1891- 1974): A prolific painter who was highly acclaimed for his colorful landscapes. At the age of 18 Grimm. Won a scholarship to study at the Dusseldorf Royal Academy in Germany. After he left the prestigious institution, Grimm moved back to the United States and settled in Hollywood where he would paint movie backdrops for several years. He would spend the rest of his life as a resident in California, keeping a studio in Palm Springs where Dwight D. Eisenhower often used to visit his friend. Today an throughout his career, Grimm’s works have been published in many esteemed art publications and exhibited in museums across the country for the enjoyment of collectors and critics.
