Up for sale is original oil on canvas painting by Canadian artist Monique Harvey (1950 – 2001). The painting is titled Petit pot aux bras ouverts and it is very well executed with high level of artistic skills. The painting itself is measuring about 24 (61 cm) by 20 (51 cm), and the frame is measuring 31 (79 cm) by 27 (69 cm). It is signed by the artist in the lower right corner, and also signed, dated and titled at the back. This painting would be a great addition to any collection. Monique Harvey (1950 – 2001). A painter, draftsman and printmaker, Monique Harvey was born in Montreal, Quebec and died there. The Marc-Aurèle Fortin Museum (Montreal) hosted a retrospective of her works in 1989 and the Musée Pierre-Boucher (Trois-Rivières, Quebec) has an example of her work in its permanent collection. Her primary medium was oil on canvas. Her subjects included portraits, figures, still life, landscapes, genre and interiors. Her styles could be described as Expressionism, Fauvism, Modernism, Naive Art, Primitivism and Surrealism. She considered herself a self taught painter; however, she did earn a Certificate in Arts in drawing and painting at the University of Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, Quebec (1980). She worked as a photographer before for taking up painting in the late 1970s. Harveys works were included in the exhibitions Les Femmeuses, Pratt & Whitney Canada, Longueuil, Quebec (1988, 1989 and 1996); Women Painters of Quebec, Musée Marc-Aurèle Fortin, Montréal (1990); Laurentides: Pictorial Panorama from 1899 to the Present, Centre d’exposition du Vieux-Palais, Saint-Jérôme, Quebec (1991); and in Entre Deux Chaises, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (1998). Her works have also been shown at prominent commercial galleries such as Galerie Lydia Monaro, Montreal; Galerie Michel-Ange, Montreal; Hollander York Gallery, Toronto; Galerie St-Laurent + Hill, Ottawa; Loch & Mayberry Fine Art, Winnipeg; and Masters Gallery, Calgary.
