Emperor’s New Clothes, Original Oil Painting, Life Size, 36″x48″, Canvas. I was drawn to oil painting because of the expressive qualities I can create. Communicating my feelings of the moment through paint is my goal. What is going on in the World around us is important to me. The meditative feel of moving paint around a canvas and the therapeutic application of color is what I crave. I’m drawn to impressionist painting, inspired by Post Impressionism. Van Gogh, Renoir, Degas, Lucian Freud and Jenny Saville are inspirations. Showing the viewer part of the story and letting them form their own impression is my goal. I intend to infuse humor, story telling, abstract and detail elements in my paintings. Janine Salzman was born and spent her formative years in the exotic Tunis, Tunisia, in North Africa. Inspired as a child by the mingled sights, sounds, and flavors of the French, Arabic and Sephardic cultures of this Mediterranean seaport, she knew at the age of 9 that she wanted to paint the beauty that surrounded her. Later in Paris where she attended secondary school, she discovered and was captivated by the great French Impressionist masters such as Cezanne, Monet and especially Van Gogh. ? Finally in Los Angeles years later as a young wife and mother of two daughters she found herself liberated, back in Mediterranean-like sunlight and now exposed to the strong plein air painting tradition of nineteenth and twentieth century California. Now she was determined to follow her dream. She dedicated every moment she could to painting. After fifiteen years of disciplined hard work and over 40 workshops taught by international contemporary masters such as Jove Wang, C. Mendez, she has fulfilled her dream of becoming a professional artist. ?? Born: 1881 – Rome, Italy Died: 1951 – Los Angeles, California Known for: portrait, mural, landscape, religious painting. Hector (Ettore) Serbaroli was born in Rome, Italy on Jan. Serbaroli studied art in Rome with Maccari and at the Institute de San Michele with A. Upon winning a painting competition in 1900, he was awarded a commission in Mexico City to decorate the Teatro Nacional (now Bellas Artes). He remained there until the revolution made it impossible to work as an artist. Upon moving to California in 1913, he settled in San Rafael and for several years taught art there at the Mount Tamalpais Military Academy (now the Marin Academy). He worked on commissions for the PPIE and contributed a huge panorama of Mount Tamalpais to the exposition which later hung for many years in the Ferry Building.
