Painting is signed lower right H. The view in this painting is. Cafe de la paix in Paris. Painting is in excellent condition and includes a beautiful, ornate, French style, solid wood gold frame by APF Munn Master Frame Makers of Manhattan , NY. A nice linen liner has been added. APF Munn creates frames for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and many other major art museums. It was priced at 5,900.00, but you can save thousands off this gallery price. If you have always wanted a Edouard Cortes or a E. Galen Laloue but did not want to spend 25-50,000, then Schaeffer is a great alternative. He was a contemporary of Cortes. He is a listed french artist with the same high quality look as Cortes. Henri Alexis Schaeffer was born in Paris, France in early August of 1900. A student at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris, Schaeffer studied painting under thehand of the master Cormon. Schaeffers earlier paintings consisted primarily of architectural studies of classical monuments and religious landmarks. Was a member of and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français beginning in 1934. Schaeffer mainly painted urban Parisien scenes. Schaeffer was a Post-Impressionist, the art movement following Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism. The style showed a greater concern for expression, structure and form than did Impressionism. While the use of light is still important, it is strong and focused, as opposed to soft and diffused and the use of color is also strong and pure. In this ingenuity there was a certain measure of retroactivity inherent to the nature of his later work. The paintings depict Paris subjects and landmarks, yet the Paris he portrays is the Paris of an earlier day; carriages, gaslights, women in clothing styled as it was in the first decades of this century. It has been suggested that Schaeffer was a painter of the Paris of his childhood. Henri Alexis Schaeffer remained in Paris throughout his life and died there in 1975. The artist was a member of the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1934.     Rare Street Scene of probably Holland see windmill in background, this oil is clearly signed in lower right corner and also has old metal label at bottom center. Total framed measurements are 17 x 15 inches, and canvas itself measures 8 x 10 inches. Canvas is in good strong, tight physical condition with no tears or repairs but could use a cleaning as pictured. Colors are bright but would really pop if you choose to clean. Old wood gilded and leafy frame, once gorgeous, has experienced many areas of loss as shown, but holds tight. You will need stretcher bars, wood glue (optional), a staple gun with staples, and canvas pliers. Step Three: Attaching the Stretched Canvas to the Frame. This process simply requires that some metal hardware framing brackets be screwed or drilled into the frame. Again, the hardware is commonly found at a hobby, craft, or hardware store. Step Four: Adding Hanging Hardware. This is the easiest step. Simply attach the hanging hardware to the back using a tape measure for centering accuracy.
