BARON JEAN ANTOINE THEODORE GUDIN. A very beautiful signed oil on canvas by Theodore Gudin which dates to around 1850 and depicts figures unloading boats on a beach at sunset. The work is signed lower right and in very good original condition. The artist is highly sought after and is considered Frances premier marine painter of the 19th century. Sunset on the Coast. Oil on original canvas. 13 x 22 inches unframed / 19 x 28 inches framed. Very good original condition. Théodore Gudin, as he is usually known, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Girodet-Trioson. He was subsequently influenced by the Romantic School and exhibited at the London Royal Academy. He was awarded medals in 1824, 1848 and 1855 and the Légion d’Honneur in 1828, becoming an Officer of the Légion in 1841 and a Commander in 1855. Gudin executed many paintings for the king’s household and worked for the Duke of Orleans and many other notables in France and elsewhere. Museum and Gallery Holdings. For the past twelve years, I have been traveling in my Airstream trailer painting landscapes of this beautiful country of ours creating art that tries to capture a poetic mood. Inspired by the color and light, whether on a majestic landscape or intimate still life, using the techniques of Impressionism, Tonalism, and Realism is what I wish to share with the viewer. Exploring not only the landscape of the United States but also the wonderful art treasures we as a country possess. I have studied in many of the art museums from coast to coast and have learned many a lesson from the great art masters of the past. From Rembrandt to Monet, to Van Gogh to Jackson Pollock and beyond. As an actor, which I have begun fairly recently, I have been on many sets. As a volunteer firefighter, I have a deeper sense of community by giving what I can to help those in need. Artist Biography: Jeff Love Born in 1961 into a farming family from Ohio, Jeff spent his early years with a pasture of sheep, acres of corn and a red prairie barn as his playgrounds. As Jeff watched his grandfather shepherd a flock of sheep or harvest a field of corn, a love for nature grew. Art was always of interest to Jeff and the two seemed to go together well. A move to Colorado during his early teen years brought about a new love to build his growing interest in art on § The Rocky Mountains. Excelling in art in school, a high school teacher recognized that Jeff needed to go farther and encouraged him to take college courses while in high school at an art school in Colorado Springs where he explored various mediums and styles. After high school, Jeff studied art in college in Kansas City, Kansas, furthering his skills which led to an award in watercolor and representation in a gallery show. After college, Jeff felt a call on his life to a career in ministry and has spent many fulfilling years helping others discover their unique giftedness and purpose in life. Ministry has taken Jeff to Colorado, Nebraska, West Texas, and Arizona, where he now lives. During these years, Jeff focused his continuing education in ministerial studies, painting mostly for enjoyment and as an outlet. Finally, in 2007, Jeff recognized that an important part of his own life-purpose was creating and painting. Jeff is a firm believer and has taught countless many that it is never too late to become the best that God intends you to be. Actively pursuing painting with the inspiration and encouragement of instruction from some of his favorite artists, Jeff’s medium of choice is oil in which he has dedicated himself to exploring the Arizona landscape both en plein air and in the studio. Jeff loves to teach, paint and study art, wander the wilderness looking for just the right light, and his paintings are often inspired from some remote mountain location in the high desert of Southern Arizona. This great landscape by Paul Grimm is in excellent shape. The frame is original and could use a bit of restoration. The painting itself has never been cleaned or restored but has been displayed in a non smoking environment out of direct sun. Size of canvas is a 20 x 24. My mother owned an art gallery in California for a short time in the late 60’s and has had this since that time. Grimm (1891- 1974): A prolific painter who was highly acclaimed for his colorful landscapes. At the age of 18 Grimm. Won a scholarship to study at the Dusseldorf Royal Academy in Germany. After he left the prestigious institution, Grimm moved back to the United States and settled in Hollywood where he would paint movie backdrops for several years. He would spend the rest of his life as a resident in California, keeping a studio in Palm Springs where Dwight D. Eisenhower often used to visit his friend. Today an throughout his career, Grimm’s works have been published in many esteemed art publications and exhibited in museums across the country for the enjoyment of collectors and critics. Many of my paintings have thick paint and can take a while to cure completely. The thick passages may still be a bit soft. With a few weeks cure time the paint will stiffen and the new aroma of natural walnut oil will fade completely. Please be aware that my paintings are meant to be viewed FRAMED. As fantastical as they may be and as pleased as you might be with your winning of my unframed little masterpiece be aware that the magnitude of your ocular felicity will increase exponentially as soon as you see the painting framed. They are best viewed and enjoyed with a simple profile dark or gold leafed plein air or craftsman style frame like the one pictured. The colors, drawing and composition of the artwork will all stand out and come together in a most pleasing-to-the-eye fashion when once framed. Enjoyment of any given painting will increase greatly when viewed while FRAMED at eye level on any wall. I strongly suggest having a frame ready for its first viewing or… Drive the unopened package directly to your favorite frame shop without anyone ever seeing the painting in its naked state. The process from start to finish can be done in four steps after the initial materials purchasing. There are many online videos showing how to do each step of this process. The items needed for such a project are in bold letter below. If you use a 20×24 or a 24×36 inch painting, you can easily select an assembled frame from a big box hobby store. Step One: Preparing the Canvas. So as to seal in the paint and protect your art piece from dust, you can put several coats of. Acrylic varnish on it with a sponge or paint brush. This product also comes in a spray can. Step Two: Stretching the Painting Canvas. We strongly suggest that you watch a video on this step. Again, it’s not complicated. It is very straightforward. You will need stretcher bars, wood glue (optional), a staple gun with staples, and canvas pliers. Step Three: Attaching the Stretched Canvas to the Frame. This process simply requires that some metal hardware framing brackets be screwed or drilled into the frame. Again, the hardware is commonly found at a hobby, craft, or hardware store. Step Four: Adding Hanging Hardware. This is the easiest step. Simply attach the hanging hardware to the back using a tape measure for centering accuracy.
