He is the protector and guide of Gautama Buddha. Vajrapani is also called Chana Dorji and Chador and represented in Buddhist iconography as one of the earliest three protective deities or bodhisattvas surrounding the Buddha. Each of them symbolizes one of the Buddha’s virtues: Manjushri manifests all the Buddhas’ wisdom, Avalokitesvara manifests all the Buddhas’ immense compassion, and Vajrapani protects Buddha and manifests all the Buddhas’ power as well as the power of all five tathagatas (Buddhahood of the rank of Buddha). In Tibetan Buddhism and in Pure Land Buddhism he is known as Mahasthamaprapta and forms a triad with Amitabha and Avalokitesvara. Manifestations of Vajrapani can also be found in many Buddhist temples in China, Taiwan and Japan as Dharma protectors guarding monastery and temple gates. Vajrapani is also associated with Acala, where he is serenaded as the holder of the vajra. Size of the Painting: 14.5-inches x 20-inches (37 cm x 51 cm)- Excluding Outer border. Ala – literally “circle” is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe. [1] In common use, “mandala” has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe. The basic form of most mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point. Mandalas often have radial balance. The below Mandala is called Mantra Mandala (Om Ma ne Pad me Hun). Is the six-syllabled Sanskrit mantra particularly associated with the four-armed Shadakshari form of Avalokiteshvara Tibetan:?????????????? Kannon or Kanzeon, Mongolian:?????? Migjid Janraisig, the bodhisattva of compassion. The first word Om is a sacred syllable found in Indian religions. The word Mani means “jewel” or “bead”, Padme is the “lotus flower” (the Buddhist sacred flower), and Hum represents the spirit of enlightenment. It is commonly carved onto rocks, known as mani stones, or else it is written on paper which is inserted into prayer wheels. When an individual spins the wheel, it is said that the effect is the same as reciting the mantra as many times as it is duplicated within the wheel. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”.
