His parents were teachers; his mother taught elementary school, and his father was a geography teacher and school principal. I had a happy childhood. If there’s a paradise on Earth, it’s in childhood. Our village is situated on the right bank of the Styr River, and beyond the village, there is a beautiful lake and forest. The artist shares his memory. He studied at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, majoring in geography (1976 – 1981). He worked at one of the research institutes in Lviv, dealing with cartography and aerial photography. He started painting at the age of 32 or 33. He was gifted a book by A. Winner, How to Work on Landscape Painting with Oil Colors. Getting acquainted with it gave him a strong impetus to seriously engage in painting. I appreciate the painting of various times and artists, including Velázquez, Rubens, Post-Impressionists, D. Boychuk and the Boychukists, and in the realm of sculpture – O. In painting, color is a priority for me. Leonid explains. He creates urban landscapes, scenery, still lifes, nudes, abstract and graphic works, and illustrates books. He works in various techniques.

Just type in her name. GRACE SCHLESIER – CONTEMPORARY SEASCAPE & LANDSCAPE ARTIST. I grew up in the suburbs of New York City. Our family would spend a couple of weeks each summer in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York, visiting my grandparents at a boarding house they visited every year. It came with lots of animals and a running stream to play in; kid heaven. I always could hardly wait for the day we would be leaving for our vacation. I loved the freedom, the animals, getting dirty and finding adventure wherever I looked. The coming home, back to the suburbs, I remembered always being sad and hated leaving…. I missed the country… Now that I have my own choices of where I want to be, I find I gravitate to the sea and the mountains for that open space I love and a place where I feel totally at peace. Here is where I choose to spend my time, sometimes just observing, but most often with a paint brush in hand. Just recently we have downsized and now I’m close to the sea and can be there in just a few minutes. Living where I do in the Del Mar area of Southern California, I can easily be in the mountains in about an hour as well, so it’s ideal for me. People ask me what my style is and I say, I’m a mix….. I’m a Realist with an Impressionist twist. I believe this because I never paint exactly what I see. When I’m on location, what I see to paint, is a jumping off point. It’s my impression of the scene and what I’m hoping to say with my paint and brush. I may move rocks or trees around, or leave them out. I don’t paint every leaf, I paint an impression. It took me some time to realize it was about sharing the experience with the viewer. So often we collect paintings that jog our memory, perhaps transport us to a special place or memory we’d forgotten. That’s what I love about what I do. Happiness and joy in such a busy world is a reprieve, a place to clear our heads and lose ourselves in a special place. I can’t do much about changing our environment, but I can invite you into a painting to relax and grab “a breath of fresh air”….. I’m blessed and feel honored. I’m grateful for all the wonderful people I’ve met along the way and the many who have collected my work over the years. You all are like family and a big part of the reason I love painting beauty. You make it all worthwhile. I’ve been a painter for over 40 years, since my youngest started school, and have always loved creating. I wanted to share more about me personally, rather than list all of my awards, shows, publications and the like. Of course, after 40 years there is a bit of that, but I wasn’t going to take your time. If that’s of interest, much of it is available on Google or your favorite search engine, if you would like to learn more I’d be happy to send you information, or just call me, I’d enjoy talking with you. I did want to take a moment to thank you for visiting and if you’ve enjoyed yourself, come back again and you can even sign up for my emails and be notified first about new paintings.
